Soul Station
Hank Mobley
Besides being one of the best tenor saxophonists
of his time, Henry (Hank) Mobley (1930-1986) is
widely recognized as one of the great composers
of the hard-bop era, with interesting chord changes
and room for soloists to stretch out (this LP includes
four of his compositions). Soul Station, which
features him as the only horn in a quartet format
with an all-star rhythm section consisting of Wynton
Kelly at the piano, Paul Chambers at the bass, and
Art Blakey at the drums, is generally considered to
be his finest recording.
