Slow Signal Fade
Recorded and produced by legendary indie rock studio wizard Steve Albini (Low, P.J. Harvey, Pixies, Nirvana), Steady, the debut full-length from Los Angeles, CA-based shoegazer outfit The Slow Signal Fade delivers. One listen to Steady and the SSF's rich, textured sound is that of sonic familiarity which is anything but derivative. Their evocative style, colorful melodies, and engaging percussions provide the foundation for the beautiful, timeless and ethereal vocals of Sri Lankan born singer Marguerite Olivelle. Drawing inspiration from singing legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington to Sinead O'Connor and Cat Power, Olivelle seamlessly bridges the gap between timeless classics and of-the-moment contemporary singers. With their delayed guitars, clever lyrics and gauzy vocals, the SSF is one of those rare bands that aren't concerned with writing the perfect 3-minute pop song. The hooks in this tackle box are few and far between. What you will find is an expansive wall of sound that alternates between sleep-like calm, wired impulses, and careful destruction.
