Pilgrim's Progress

Three-part documentary on the German composer Paul Hindemith. Part one features a lecture, narrated by Ronald Pickup, on the composer's life and works and discusses how and why he wrote the famous opera 'Mathis der Maler' which was based on a painting by Matthias Grünewald. Part two looks at the painting in more detail, with the music from the opera accompanying the scenes.

Part three features Hindemith's own words alongside archive footage of the Third Reich and more music from 'Mathis der Maler'.
