Frank Zappa - Waka / Wazoo
Frank Zappa Waka/Wazoo is a comprehensive 4CD + Blu-ray box set celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Mothers Of Invention/Hot Rats/Grand Wazoo experience.
After the accident in which Frank Zappa was pushed off the stage at the Rainbow Theatre, London, he spent several months recuperating at his home in Laurel Canyon. During this time he managed to get a contract for a 20-piece ensemble, along with recordings and an 8-city tour. Soon after, a scaled-down group of 10 people, now known as "Petit Wazoo", toured for nearly two months. To round off the experiment, two dazzling albums were also made, Waka/Jawaka & The Grand Wazoo.
The Waka/Wazoo box set offers a complete historical overview of the entire project, with alternate takes of almost every composition recorded during the album sessions, along with Vault mix session outtakes and curiosities, as well as previously unreleased demos that Zappa produced for George Duke. Also included is the complete final show of the tour with the 10-piece band. The Blu-ray Audio disc contains both albums with brand new Atmos and 5.1 mixes and 96kHz 24-bit high-res stereo remasters.
Along with the CD box set, Waka/Jawaka & The Grand Wazoo are being reissued on vinyl.
