Xavi and Catherine, one-time lovers who share one thing in common, both their great-grandparents were famous. Catherine's a general in the Spanish dictator's army and Xavi's Ada Nieves, a feminist icon of the Republican side. The author divides the narrative into the past and modern-day Spain. The past belongs to the sixteen-year old Ada on her epic journey escorting six child refugees across the Pyrenees. Today belongs to Catherine as she rises through the ranks of the new Nationalist party, the NBP, with the naïve Xavi desperately following her as she moves into a world of corruption, fake media, lies, deceit and finally murder. Eventually Xavi's love dies, turning into loathing and he sets about bringing Catherine down.
