Roger Strauss was US Air Force pilot with a promising career ahead of him. He was chosen to test pilot an experimental vehicle which would make it possible to instantly travel from one point in the universe to another. The craft would circumvent time and space by leaving the universe, and once outside, the pilot would take advantage of the infinite perspective to enter the universe again at a new point. But instead of returning to the universe at a different physical location, Roger finds himself in an alien universe with a different set of physical laws. He is a stranger Avramis, the Flat World, and almost immediately becomes the center of an ancient conflict which is nearly as old as the world itself.
