Aldo Leopold was America's foremost conservationist and environmental scholar. He is renowned for starting the national wilderness system, founding the field of wildlife management and ecology, and writing the conservation classic A Sand County Almanac. He devoted his life to the question, "How do we live on the land without spoiling it?" Both his work and his writings continue to inspire millions of people in their efforts to solve this problem. Written in a clear, accessible style, this biography reveals the background, early inspiration, and triumphs of Aldo Leopold. Marybeth Lorbiecki traces Leopold's development as a leader in the conservationist movement and explores his environmental writings, achievements, and philosophy. At the same time, Lorbiecki examines Leopold's life as a husband and father, allowing readers to see for the first time both the personal and public side of this great educator, writer, advocate, and philosopher.
