Mjt/ Dark Hearts Remix

The latest in the Night Slugs White Label series an installment of other-worldy Grime instrumentals from label boss BOK BOK. On side A is "MJT". Subtitled "The Torture Trak", this bizarre and show-stopping piece of club music borrows a synthy hook from a classic Boogie love song (spot the sample!!) and repeats it over and over and over, atop a framework of pounding Linn rolls and huge bass hits - all trapped inside a concrete stairwell of an echo chamber. The track is designed for punishment, to be the ultimate earworm; a new subversive kind of box-beater. Side B holds the long-awaited "Dark Hearts Dub", originally made as a remix for the UK artist RIZ MC. Not much remains of the original however. "Dark Hearts Dub" is dungeon Eski, a challenge to MCs not to get lost in the rave; a clanking, jerking, deconstructed rhythm full of panic-inducing caverns. The surprise arrival half way of a chorus of saws and saxophones momentarily lift the track above the rooftops before Bok's gliding bass square pulls it back down into the gutter.
