Goose are back. Four years after the release of their debut, Bring It On, the Belgian four-piece return with a new sound on album two, Synrise. Recorded at the legendary Jet Studios in Brussels, it sees the band - Mickael Karkousse (vocals/synth), Dave Martijn (guitar/synth), Tom Coghe (bass/synth) and Bert Libeert (drums) - fusing a live recording ethos with influences ranging from early ’90s trance to early ’80s movie soundtracks. Words, the first single, harks back to trance of the 90’s. Over a bleeping melody and brutal bassline, Karkousse sings, “Words are violently erupting / Signs are flashing / Body’s talk” in a menacing baritone. Despite having the kind of hook that lodges in your brain after one listen, it also reveals a darker side to the band, one that might come as a surprise to people familiar with the noisy dance-music-with-rock attitude stylings of Bring It On.
