Surfin Safari Coloured edition
The Beach Boys
Both "Luau" and "Judy" belong to the earliest sessions by The Beach Boys, but none of them appeared on their debut LP. "Luau" was issued as the B side of a single backing "Surfin'." The two tracks here, "Luau," and "Judy," were originally produced by Hite Morgan and released on the small Candix label. Major success arrived quickly for the group when "Surfin' Safari," their first Capitol single, raced up the charts, peaking at Number 14. The Beach Boys' run of surfing-related hits-"Surfin'," "Surfin' Safari," "Surfin' U. S. A." and "Surfer Girl," all released in 1962 and 1963 -raised the profile of the state of California and the sport of surfing.
