Born in Rio de Janeiro, Elizete Cardoso (1920-1990) was one of the best-known voices of Bossa Nova. Her father was a serenade who played guitar, and her mother was an amateur singer. She was discovered by Jacob do Bandolim at her 16th birthday party (Bandolim was brought by her cousin Pedro, a popular figure among the musicians of the day). In 1939, she began to perform at clubs, movie theaters and other venues. She enjoyed considerable success and her popularity increased significantly. In 1958, Cardoso was invited by Vinícius de Moraes to be the singer on an LP featuring songs he wrote with Antonio Carlos Jobim. Canção do Amor Demais became the first album of bossa nova music. The record launched the new genre, along with other albums such as the one presented here, Sax Voz No.2 (Copacabana - COELP 41393), which finds her backed by tenor saxophonist Moacyr Silva. According to Silva: "On this COPACABANA release you have Elizete's last interpretations,
combined with recordings by our quartet, featuring Chaim on piano, Jorge Marinho on bass, Paulinho on drums, Rubens, Geraldo Barbosa and Raul Marques on percussion...and I play tenor sax.
