Os Afro Sambas
Moraes,vinicius / Powell,baden
Os Afro Sambas was born out of Vinícius infatuation for samba de roda songs with candomblé influences from Bahia. Baden Powell had also been into Bahian candomblé. When the two artist joined forces to explore those sounds they loved so much, Os Afro Sambas was born. For the LP sessions they counted on the vocal collaboration of Quarteto Em Cy, the backing tracks showed a rich, unique musicality combining candomblé and umbanda instruments with timbres common to Brazilian music. The songs have since become standards in the repertoire of many Brazilian artists, notably the opening track ‘Canto de Ossanha’, which Vinícius himself revisited in his famous recorded concert LPs in La Fusa.
