Subterranean Sunset
Izakaya Heartbeat
Izakaya Heartbeat is back with more psychedelic noise-rock. This is the third album by the Norwegians that gave you already "Ancient Asobi / In Arcadia" (2010) and "Enter / Rainbow Lake" (2013). The band is known for their extravagant live-shows of loud and noisy hypno-rock and "Subterranean Sunset" offers that abundantly. But as on the two previous albums, they allow for a mellow dreamy tone at times to step through the sonic walls and comfort your weary nerves. They combine drony stoner/sludge-rock with indie shoegaze rock and alternative post-rock, and use dark psychedelic electronics to make it all sound even more dirty and creepy.
Ofcourse they are huge fans of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, but also bands as Can, Trumans Water, Unwound, Om, Mogwai, The Black Angels, Earthless, Melvins, Boris and Mudhoney are never far away. The Oslo collective Izakaya Heartbeat has been a crew in flux, with the main constants being it's principle songwriter and singer Christian Wilson Larsen along with guitarist Kenneth Amundsen. "Subterranean Sunset" was produced by Jarle Steinhovden, which gave a little change to a more lavish and meticulous soundscape, with the intention to preserve the band's urge for experimentation and deliberate crudeness.
