The Orb
After Kompassion and Komplott , The Orb grace us with their third installment on Kompakt: Komfort and indeed, both new tracks tend to be a bit more comfortable than their predecessors. 'Ripple' is a hell of a groove monster, but at a moderate speed of roundabout 105 bpm. Though, it's as compelling as any uptempo techno could be. Do we witness the hour of birth of a new style? We wouldn't mind, would we? It's a real challenge to track down and identify all those tiny pads and sounds that might be organic, virtual, or of a third kind. The Orb are playing tracks on our ears and we love it. 'Traumvogel,' (German for 'dreambird') is another masterpiece of ambient arts. An epic, deeply emotional soundtrack to the sweetest illusion you can imagine. This track, made of harp sounds and exotic rattles of that enigmatic bird stimulates body and mind instead of setting those asleep. This is the genuine quality of The Orb. They invented this utterly entertaining form of ambient. It keeps you attentive from beginning to end like a radio play without words. That's why they are titans of this genre. Do you think this 12" is too short? Well, honestly we do too. But we're very proud to announce The Orb's first longplayer for Kompakt to be released later this year. First pre-listens promise-- something HUGE. But first things first, enjoy your summer with Komfort!
