The Hits Collection 1951-1959

A consistent feature of the pop charts during the early 1950s was the popularity of vocal groups, ideally suited to the easy-going style of the time, and providing a ready vehicle for the songs regularly emerging from the Tin Pan Alley production line. One of the most popular of the vocal quartets of that time were The Four Aces, a group of ex-US Navy personnel from Philadelphia, who scored a million-selling hit with their first record, released on their lead singer Al Alberts' own label because they couldn't get a deal. Signed to Decca, they racked up around fifty hits over the next decade in the Billboard, Cash Box and UK charts - they achieved significant success in the UK charts, with several Top 10 hits - before rock 'n' roll and it's aftermath overtook them and the group broke up not long after Al Alberts left in the late '50s.
