Lovin' Spoonful
..YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW Contains 2 LPs on 1 CD. Compilation producer: Mike Ragogna. Includes liner notes by Daniel J. Moriarty. The Lovin' Spoonful were recruited to score two films in the mid-'60s, Woody Allen's Japanese spy spoof WHAT'S UP, TIGER LILY? and Francis Ford Coppola's first major studio release, YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW. The latter introduced two Spoonful favorites, the title song and "Darling Be Home Soon." Most of the music is instrumental, and it remains quite infectious and inventive decades after it was created. Throughout, many familiar John Sebastian themes were recast to address their role as underscoring for a variety of screen actions. The handful done as sprightly marching band arrangements are as enjoyable and natural as the fun-loving spirit that The Lovin' Spoonful were all about. All told, these were two upbeat half-hours of fun when they were first released, and they remain so today.
