The Tubes' first album, 'The Tubes' (1975), was produced by Al Kooper. During their first fifteen years or so, the band was famous for their amazing live performances combined politics with wild satires of media, and consumerism. Their debut kicks off with a fantastic one-two punch of "Up From The Deep/Haloes". A true gem is "What Do You Want From Life?" which has a smoking guitar solo from Bill Spooner and a genuinely funny rant from Fee Waybill. And of course the song that would scare any parent to death, the comically dis-functional "White Punks on Dope", performed in concert by Fee Waybill as the persona of faux glitter rock "icon", Quaye Lude.
