Renaud Capuaon & David Fray
Bach's violin sonatas as expressive dialogues: Renaud Capuçon and David Fray as chamber music partners A seemingly small step by an artist - and already the music world is experiencing a moment of glory. And in this case, there are two: On the one hand the violinist Renaud Capuçon, highly experienced in the interpretation of great chamber music from classical and romantic. On the other hand, the pianist David Fray, an artist with a sense of philosophical depth, eloquence and extreme sense of style, who has proven his abilities above all in solo recordings.
For the first time, the exceptional artists are joining forces to discover the sources of chamber music for violin and piano - with a recording of four of the six violin sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to Chopin, Schubert and Mozart, it was Bach who Fray put in the center of his work in recent years - with a solo album, but also a recording of the piano concertos. In doing so, he clearly confesses his own line of interpretation: "We should not be afraid to acknowledge the expressiveness in Bach's music," he says. "The Romantics have not leased the right to expressivity." In this he is in line with Renaud Capuçon - and it is in the sense of a Romance point of view, Bach's Violin Sonata as a visionary archetype of classical chamber music. Contrary to the rules of the time, the baroque master renounced an accompanying basso continuo. He wrote out the voices of the two instruments exactly and treated them absolutely on an equal footing - a claim that later only classical masters should put back to their works.
