Haifaa Al-Mansour directs this drama about a female Saudi Arabian doctor who stands for election. The film follows Dr Maryam Alsafan (Mila Al Zahrani) as she stands in the local municipal election. As the town's first female candidate, she struggles to gain acceptance from the conservative, male-dominated population.

However, her campaign goes viral and Maryam decides to embrace her new-found position as a champion of her community and women's rights in the kingdom.
