Classic silent drama directed by F. W. Murnau. On the South Pacific island of Bora Bora, a young fisherman (Matahi) falls in love with a girl (Anne Chevalier) who has been declared tabu by her tribe.
Together, they decide to flee to another island where the boy becomes a successful pearl diver. However, their happiness proves to be short-lived as they struggle to adapt to their unfamiliar, civilised surroundings.
