Cemetery Junction

Playing out against the charming, retro backdrop of Reading during the 1970s, CEMETERY JUNCTION (a nod to the stretch of road of the same name) focuses on a small group of colourful characters that work for an insurance company. This heart-warming coming-of-age tale revolves around Freddie (Christian Cooke), a young and ambitious twenty-something who wants to elevate himself from a fate of suburban mediocrity. Unlike his friends, womanizer Bruce (Tom Hughes) and geeky Snork (Jack Doolan), who actually feel at ease in their lives made of weekend booze binges and one-night stands, Freddie wants to emancipate from his working class condition. The first step towards this goal is to get a job at an insurance company, whose owner is none other than the father of his long-lost teenage sweetheart. Once a white collar though, Bruce will have to come to terms with the bitterness and utter unpredictability of real life. Written, directed and produced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the film marks the duo's first collaboration for the big screen and features a cast that includes also the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson and Gervais himself.
