Primal Scream | Come Ahead
Primal Scream's 12th studio album, "Come Ahead," features 11 brand-new tracks showcasing Bobby Gillespie's most intimate songwriting to date. The creative journey for "Come Ahead" began in 2019, with Gillespie uncertain about the band's future. For the first time, lyrics preceded the music, allowing the narrative to take center stage. Gillespie crafted the songs solo with an acoustic guitar, experiencing rapid bursts of inspiration. This approach, coupled with support from producer David Holmes, led to a fresh creative direction. Collaborating with Holmes and Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes, the album was then completed between Belfast, London, and Los Angeles.
Gillespie doesn't directly point to an overarching concept to the album, but conflict seems to be a recurring theme across the tracks, whether inner or outer. This is also represented in the album title, "Come Ahead", a Glaswegian term of confrontation signaling equal parts aggressive attitude and confidence. And this aggressiveness and confidence is felt on Primal Scream's new album.
