Jon Hopkins | Ritual
‘Ritual’ is a 41-minute long ceremonial album. Not a traditionel album, but more of a process or journey that you as a listener enter into. It is the most personal album from Jon Hopkins to date. An album that contains both new depths and contrasts in his characteristic electronic soundscape.
The album is inspired by spiritual freedom and taps into an almost primate energy. Hopkins always works intuitively without a predetermined plan. He doesn't know where the music will take him, but he knows when the composition is finished. It's a constant feeling his way through the music, where the underlying themes can only be identified later. And in this case it became clear to Jon that the new album - as the title suggests - has taken the form of a ritual. A ritual that can mean one thing to Jon, but something completely different to the listener.
