"Eldorado is a sequel to Baroness Orczy's classic adventure tale The Scarlet Pimpernel. It was written for the first time in 1913. The book is noteworthy because it served as a partial inspiration for several of the film adaptations of the original novel. Under the title La Capture du Mouron Rouge, a French language version was also made, translated and adapted by Charlotte and Marie-Louise Desroyses. Eldorado includes all of the main characters from the first novel, as well as some new characters and the Baron de Batz, who appears in Sir Percy Leads the Band and The Way of the Scarlet Pimpernel (Baron Jean de Batz is a genuine historical figure). It's 1794, and Paris ""has remained a city of pleasure, and the knife of the guillotine did scarcely descend more often than the drop-scenes on the stage,"" considering the horrors that have stained her walls. Sir Percy reluctantly agrees to accompany Armand St. Just to France as part of a scheme to save the young Dauphin."
