In Ghostly Japan

"In Ghostly Japan" is a fine collection of stories from the land of the Rising Sun, compiled before the industrialization of the latter day Meiji Restoration erased much of the classic folklore of the nation of Japan. Lafcadio Hearn, the author of this work, compiled many works on Japanese lore and literature in his life, but "Ghostly Japan" is the most occult, and one of the most interesting. Here we see tales of jealous ghosts, reincarnation, lanterns for the dead, and little folk sayings in Japanese with various spiritual and otherworldly meanings. Games involving incense coexist with tales of ghostly paramours in this volume, which was created at the dawn of the 20th century.
