Excerpt from Six Lectures on Light: Delivered in America in 1872-1873
During their delivery, the experimental facts were before the audience, forming Visible links in the logic of each discourse. Here, by the use of plain language, I have endeavoured to reproduce distinct images of these facts, and to show them in their proper relations.
With a View to this end I have sought to raise the Wave-theory of Light to adequate clearness in the reader's mind, and to show its power as an organizer of optical phenomena.
