The time is 1946, just after WW 2, and a teenager from the Midwest goes to New York to live with his aunt and uncle, both high-powered advertising executives. In no way can he envision the major theatrical career that he's destined for. He divides his time between the lavish apartment his relatives own in Manhattan and their country home in an exclusive community just outside town. It's here that he meets an Army veteran just returned from the war. Naturally, sparks fly. He meets many of the rich and famous, and finds himself pursued by an older man... it all adds up to a world the boy never expected to be a part of. But it gives him the impetus he needs to pursue his life as an actor-singer-dancer, which propels him to the top of the heap from Broadway to Las Vegas. As time passes, however, he yearns to reconnect with the man he met when he was much younger. And decides he must find him. The narrative jumps back and forth from the time when he was young to 50 years later when he's an established star... still dreaming of the man who meant so much to him all those years past.
