Draftee 1943
Eliot Hallowell
Interviews of Eliot Hallowell, drafted in 1943, as a Navy Seabee in the Pacific Theater. This is an eyewitness account of his experience. Jane Hallowell, his daughter, interviewed him when he was 86 over the course of a year. Poems that Eliot wrote in his late 60s are interspersed within the text. He passed away two years ago at the age of 94. Foreword is by Eliot's grandson, Koji Bamba, which is especially poignant, as Koji is half-Japanese and half-American.
