Psychosocial Impact of Hiv / Aids on Orphaned and Affected Children: Psychosocial Social Impact of Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Aids on Orphaned and Affected Children

There have been relatively few studies of children orphaned by Aids in Kenya. Attention has been given to the social economic dimensions of Aids on children, such as malnutrition, reduced access to education, health care and child labor. One of the most distressing and least understood consequences of HIV /AIDS is its impact on children. Aids leaves as its legacy a generation of orphans traumatized by multiple losses, isolation, stigma and grief. The study was conceived with the purpose of establishing the psychosocial needs of children orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS . The study also sought to establish the perception and knowledge of peers, guardians and other caretakers about the psychosocial needs of orphans. The study will be useful to policy makers and other organizations involved with orphans and vulnerable children.
