Dynamic Performance of High Temperature Ceramic Checkvalves: High Temperature Performance of Check Valves Fittedwith Ceramic Components

This book discusses the performance of check valveswith springs and seats made of Yttria stabilizedzirconia. Standard check valves have components inthem, such as metallic springs and elastomeric seats, which have certain limitations with respect totemperature. The springs were of 10, 12, 14 and 16turns per inch (TPI). This helped us study theperformance of the springs based on the coilthickness and number of turns per inch. The testsincluded deflection and cracking pressuremeasurements at ambient and elevated temperatures. The experimental data was correlated to a metalspring equation with certain modifications to comparethe performance of the ceramic check valves. The work was carried out at University of AlabamaHuntsville under the able guidance of Dr James ESmith, Jr and support from Parker and HannifinCorporation, Valves Division, Jacksonville, Alabama
