Cultural Tourism from the Usa: African American''s Pilgrimage Tourism to West Africa

This book first provides a brief overview of the historical background of the trans-Atlantic slave trade referring to scope and scale, affected regions and communities and the United States as destination. Secondly it deals with the appearance of the African Diaspora in the US today. There is a pilgrimage tourism existant in the US, which tends to the ex-slave trading ports of West-Africa. Let us suppose that African-Americans have been able to preserve the mainstream of their ancestors'' culture and identity in this New World. I examine whether the blacks'' own brought identity provides the basis for these people to become a part of the cultural tourism or not. Do Afro-Americans truly have the internal force to search for their roots in Africa or could it just be the effect of the travel agencies? It seems there is a contrast between Africans and Afro-Americans. Africans do not reckon African-Americans as real Africans, probably because of their difference in culture, identity etc... This book provides some knowledge about this topic for those who are interested in it. I specially recommend this book to the learners of tourism, anthropology and prospective English teachers.
