It is a story of life. That man will choose life rather than war.

The literary lines and poetry suggest that we turn our back on war General Giap -"an old man crying out for peace. God heard his cry, now let mankind hear his cry" -maybe Terrence is just an artist who heard a cry from the universe for peace- that man would learn war no more- for the president to say "We will not fight a war with you, now let us negotiate the great dream of peace."
