While hiking the Marin Headlands north of San Francisco, G. C. Waldrep became fascinated with how the military installations there impact the landscape?s spectacular natural beauty. Thus, Waldrep produced ?The Batteries,? a sequence of nine poems that probe the interrelationship between beauty and violence.
