When Christine Berner responds to an offer of work from, Signora LaFranchi, an old friend of her mother's, at the Castello Santa Maria in the southern Swiss Alps she has no idea of what she is letting herself in for. In the old castle, set in a secluded alpine valley, Christine discovers, to her horror, a community of young women living regimented and cloistered lives, presided over by their formidable Mistress and subjected to Draconian discipline.
Trapped within the castle, Christine is subjected to the humiliating regime, the sexual advances of her fellow inmates and the continual threat of corporal punishment. At first resisting life at the castle, Christine is slowly drawn into its bizarre reality and, almost against her will, submits by increments to the discipline imposed upon her. Tormented by her own sexuality she finds herself metamorphosing into a Santa Maria girl.
In this novel, the first in the series, the reader will find themselves immersed in the strange, and oddly attractive world of Castello Santa Maria and the beautiful and remarkable young women who inhabit it.
