Vegetarian Diet: A Step by Step Guide with Recipes and a Meal PlanOver the years, the vegetarian diet has spread throughout the globe and has gained wide recognition. In fact, studies show that 18 percent of the global population consists of vegetarians. What is a vegetarian diet anyway?A vegetarian diet is devoid of meat, poultry, and fish. People have three main reasons for adopting this lifestyle. The first is rather obvious, which is to lose weight and simply eat healthy food. This does not discount the fact that meat is a rich source of protein. However, several studies have also proven that too much consumption of meat could be a risk factor to having lifelong illnesses. Vegetarianism comes in six types. A flexitarian diet occasionally allows poultry, meat, or fish. A vegan diet, on the other hand, totally eliminates meat, poultry, fish, eggs and other dairy products. Vegans stick to plant-based foods, and use beans and tofu as substitute for meat. Meanwhile, a pescetarian diet allows fish and at certain times, dairy products and eggs. People who do not eat fish, meat, poultry, and dairy products, yet allow eggs in their diet are into an ovo-vegetarian diet. The last two diets fall under the "lacto" category. A lacto-vegetarian diet allows dairy products but eliminates fish, meat, poultry, and eggs. Allowing only eggs and dairy products, in combination with vegetables, is considered a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet. This book will cover what vegetarianism is, its pros and cons, and provide you with several recipes plus a meal plan.
