The Most Pleasant and Delectable Questions of Love
Giovanni Boccaccio
A slightly modernized version of a 1587 translation of one segment of Boccaccio's 14th century writing, the original source for the translation exists today in a single copy held at Oxford's Bodleian Library. Boccacio's tremendously popular tales dealt with the consequences of secular love -- or in some cases, lust. The Most Pleasant and Delectable Questions of Love is a translation of 13 chapters of one of Boccaccio's longer works. In these chapters, a group of young people have gone to the country for the day. One of the young women is chosen "The Queen of Love." Each young person tells a love story and poses a question about love. The group answers; there is no right or wrong. But the final arbiter, "The Queen of Love," holds the answers.
