This first book by Canadian author Mel Wells follows the story of Peter, an unusual hero. When we first meet him, Peter has just joined Alcoholics Anonymous, having recently been released from jail for a drink-related offence. Peter is faced with starting again, working on his family?s ranch and staying true to his new-found sobriety. What?s One More? takes us straight into Peter?s new life as we join him on an incredible, tumultuous journey. Life on the ranch is far from easy, yet Peter approaches each adventure with good humour and honesty, encountering trauma and heartbreak with sagacity and strength. Although tested time and time again, Peter relies on the strength of AA, and his family network, to weather the many storms that come his way. Always with humour, Peter encounters love, tragedy and despair on his journey. Providing wisdom and grounding, life at Peter?s ranch is built on the foundation of family love; a family that can?t help but touch everyone who comes into contact with them. Wells has rooted his story firmly in the Canadian landscape that helped form his cast of characters. With ranches and cowboys, rodeos and Pow-wows, What?s One More? provides the reader with a window to a world rich in tradition; a way of life which is under-represented but which continues to this day.
