Foreigner is a British-American rock band, originally formed in New York City, New York, U. S. during 1976, by veteran English musician and ex-Spooky Tooth member Mick Jones, fellow Briton and ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald and US vocalist Lou Gramm. Jones came up with the group's name as he, Ian and Dennis Elliott were British, while Lou, Al Greenwood and Ed Gagliardi were American. Their biggest hit single, I Want to Know What Love Is, topped the UK and US charts among others, while Waiting for a Girl Like You, made US # 2 for a record-setting 10 weeks. Foreigner's worldwide records sales total over 80 million, including 37.5 million in the US.
