Eden Phillpotts (1862-1960) was an English author, poet and dramatist, best known for his "Dartmoor cycle" of 18 novels, including The Portreeve [or port warden, a historical British political appointment] and two volumes of short stories about Dartmoor. Agatha Christie and Jorge Luis Borges admired his work.
