The story of Kan is based on the young lives of many dogs that are a problem for their owners until they discover the sport of dog agility. Sally Ann and her mother know that Kan is just misunderstood and needs a job to do, but Ms. Wrigley wants Kan to lie around all day like her cat Gingernut. Happily, as in the story of Kan, who manages to convince his owner to take him to agility class so he can learn to run, jump and weave, when owners invest the time in training their dogs for an enjoyable hobby they often blossom into better household companions.
Our hero, Kan, is based upon Kathy´s English Shepherds, Rufus and Purdy. It is Rufus, Purdy and all the other dogs who enjoy having "a job to do" in the company of their owners, that inspired the writing of this book.
