However, while still sheltering in the cafe from an increasingly British winter, John then tells his story: the story of his father, a Civil Rights campaigner in the Deep South during the 1960s, who was later caught up in the anti-Vietnam war movement, and a conspiracy against him. Both stories end in some form of tragedy, and both incriminate. Later, John makes an interesting discovery about some of his recent research on extremism and finds that perhaps his motives were were more personal than he had at first imagined...
