John Lubbock
Sir John Lubbock was an English banker who was fascinated with biology and archaeology. First published in 1865, this volume introduced an evolutionary interpretation of archaeology where human cultures evolve to become more sophisticated over time. Lubbock's interpretation became an extremely influential social theory which was adopted by contemporary archaeologists.
