Lost Battalions
Franz Steidl
Lost Battalions chronicles the fate of the 1st Battalion of the "Alamo Regiment," cut off for five days behind German lines, and the Japanese Americans of the 100/442d Regimental Combat Team, who came to their rescue. At the same time, only five miles north, a 1000-man battalion from Salzburg simply "vanished," as the mountain troops sent to link up with them found themselves holding a mountain pass against overwhelming odds. Lost Battalions, told by men from both sides of the war, from gen- eral to private, is an extraordin- ary story of courage, honor, and humanity.
