"The dark figure paused behind a large lilac bush just outside the circle cast by the spotlights. It was a time to wait and watch, the long summer evening just dark enough for the security lights to come on. An hour passed, darkness fell, and nothing moved in front of the house. Suddenly, the figure ran to the front door, fitted a key into the deadbolt lock, turned the key and the knob at the same time, and pushed the door open just far enough to slip inside.
