Moondance of the Fireflies

In the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, a young boy enjoys the wonder of a hot, summer night catching ?re?ies. However, these are unique ?re?ies. It is the synchronous ?re?y. These special ?re?ies appear for a short period in the summer and communicate in a special way by ?ashing their hues of greens and yellows at the same time; performing a melodic dance through the mountain air. On the other side of the world, a young boy from Southeast Asia enjoys the same thrills of the ?re?ies on a hot, summer night, once again showing us that no matter where children might live, they all experience the joys of nature and the excitement of discovering the natural world. Woven throughout the book is also a lesson on this very special ?re?y; giving an easily understood science lesson to the child and parent.
