Contributor Bio:  Merton, Thomas Thomas Merton (1915-1968) was a Trappist monk, writer, and peace and civil rights activist. Merton's works have had a profound impact on contemporary religious and philosophical thought. He is best known for his autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain and New Seeds of Contemplation. Contributor Bio:  Wilson-Hartgrove, Jonathan Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, author of several books including God s Economy and The Wisdom of Stability, is associate minister at St. John s Baptist Church and director of the School for Conversion. Contributor Bio:  Reno, R R R. R. Reno is Professor of Theological Ethics at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Contributor Bio:  Lynd, Staughton Scott Nearing was one of the great social critics and humanitarians of the 20th century. Contributor Bio:  Bonhoeffer, Dietrich Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 - 1945) was a major writer and thinker in Germany between the wars. His many books of theology are still read and as influential among contemporary evangelical believers as the works of C. S. Lewis and Billy Graham: such works as The Cost of Discipleship, Letters and Papers from Prison, Ethics, Life Together, and Christ the Center. In 1939 he refused to take the loyalty oath to Adolf Hitler. Shortly after, he was invited to participate in a plot to assassinate Hitler. He was eventually caught, imprisoned, and executed. Contributor Bio:  Moore, Charles E Pastor, politician, and author, Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt (1842-1919) with his unconventional ideas about the kingdom of God, profoundly influenced a whole generation of European seekers. Among the luminaries he influenced were Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Emil Brunner, Oscar Cullman, and Karl Barth. Yet his vision and witness are still waiting to be discovered by most Americans, few of whom have had access to his works. He carried forward the work of his father, Johann Christoph Blumhardt (1805-1880), who is regarded by many as the key figure of German pietism.
