She received her Ph. D. in Linguistics from the University of Chicago in 1983. Her main areas of research interest are the development of grammatical and pragmatic competence in second language acquisition. She has taught courses in second language acquisition designed for language teachers as well as doctoral seminars for future researchers in the United States, Hungary, and Japan. She has also taught courses in TESOL methods, interlanguage pragmatics, and discourse analysis. Her research in second language acquisition has appeared in journals such as Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Language Learning, and TESOL Quarterly. Her work on language-teacher preparation has been published in TESOL Journal and ELT Journal and in various books. Contributor Bio:  Felix-Brasdefer, J Cesar J. Cesar Felix-Brasdefer is Associate Professor of Spanish Linguistics in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Indiana University, Bloomington. His recent publications include Politeness in Mexico and the United States (2008) and Pragmatic Variation in First and Second Language Contexts (edited with Dale Koike, 2012).
