Hosle ist Verfasser zahlreicher Bucher, unter anderem zum deutschen Idealismus, zur Philosophiegeschichte, zur Diskursethik und zur praktischen Philosophie. In seiner Philosophie verbindet er einen objektiven Idealismus" mit einer Theorie der Intersubjektivitat, ein Ansatz, der die traditionelle idealistische Philosophie von Platon und Hegel mit der von Karl-Otto Apel etablierten Transzendentalpragmatik in Einklang zu bringen versucht.
