Nina Simone
Three unforgettable evenings: “Nina Simone In Concert” was recorded on March 21 and April 1 and 6, 1964, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Produced by Hal Mooney, the album was released by Philips that same year. The album marked the beginning of Simone's explicitly civil rights-oriented music, in which she integrated messages into her performances. The clearly political song “Mississippi Goddamn” was released as a single. Other tracks such as “Old Jim Crow,” “Go Limp” and “Pirate Jenny,” however, contributed to the political and civil rights message in a more hidden or metaphorical way.
