Half-Light & Other Poems - Arc Classic Translations

Half-Light & Other Poems brings together the most important and enduring poems by this neglected writer, one of Russia's great 19th century poets. In a new translation by Peter France, the philosophical, social and literary struggles of Russia under Tsar Nicholas I are brought to vivid life.

Marc Notes: Translated from the Russian.; The philosophical, social and iterary struggles of Russia under Tsar Nicholas I are brought to vivid life in the verses of a man who felt profoundly and was highly skilled at expressing his emotions and beliefs in dazzling, often fantastical fashion.

Contributor Bio:  France, Peter Peter France is a life-long resident of the Wirral peninsula, and chairman of the Wirral History and Heritage Association and has spent nearly fifty years researching the archaeology of Wirral, Cheshire and North Wales, as well as working on archaeological sites throughout the country as a member of Wirral Archaeology. The Brunanburh Research Project is now approaching its sixth year. Peter has written several articles on the subject. This is his first book. Contributor Bio:  Baratynsky, Yevgeny Yevgeny Baratynsky (1800-1844) achieved fame with his earliest poems, psychologically acute love elegies and meditations written in the first half of the 1820s. In this early period, he was closely identified with the movement in Russian poetry that coalesced around Pushkin. Largely neglected by critics in the latter half of the 19th century, Baratynsky's work received a new appreciation only with the Symbolist poets in the early 20th century and later with Akhmatova and Mandelstam; most recently, Joseph Brodsky and Aleksandr Kushner have especially underscored the importance of Baratynsky for their own writing.
